To Spray or Not To Spray?
What Is Proactive Disinfection Spraying?
I began hearing about businesses offering disinfection spray services about 5 years ago. Right after H1N1 became a household name. It seemed as though everyone was offering this service. Lawn guys, window washers, contract cleaners, insect exterminators, and “fly-by-nighters”, all spraying commercial and residential spaces. Using an array of equipment and chemicals, there was a lot of spraying going on. The arrival of COVID virus has pushed this “new” application to the forefront. So, what exactly is it?
Bacteria, Viruses, and Germs are everywhere. On every surface in every establishment. Some are a nuisance, and some can be dangerous or even life threatening. Regular cleaning and wiping of surfaces with disinfectant keep the numbers down, but it is nearly impossible to wipe every surface. What about walls, undersides of tables and chairs, curtains, and mattresses to name a few. By utilizing electrostatic technology to charge the disinfectant as it leaves the sprayer, the hard to get at surfaces are covered in an even coating of disinfectant or sanitizer. With adequate dwell time before drying, this is an effective way of killing most if not all the microscopic “bugs” on the treated surface. With the additional application of a Biostatic Antimicrobial Coating, you can have further protection for up to 90 days.
While not a replacement for regular cleaning and disinfection, proactive spraying has become commonplace in commercial buildings. Schools are spraying classrooms and busses regularly. There are obvious benefits to the practice. Since we do not know what the next novel virus will be, spraying proactively seems smart. After all, hepatitis, flu, pink eye, and any number of common viruses can be reduced in this way. We spray proactively against insects, why not against the bugs we can’t see!
For do-it-yourselfers, we sell the spraying equipment as well as the professional chemicals. If you are interested in scheduling this service in the greater Fort Smith area, please contact our partner: GermSafe Proactive at 479-242-2127.
